Elizabeth and Robin’s intimate wedding was an emotional, warm and powerful one. Tears of joy, words that will be remembered for a lifetime and uncontrollable fits of laughter were shared amongst dear friends and family. Meaningful vows were read on a summer’s evening, in a wild overgrown meadow in the mountains of Andalusia, Spain. The bride, beautiful and goddess like wore a floaty bohemian gown with to-die-for flared sleeves, designed and made by her mother and the groom and bridal party dressed in warm earthy shades harmonising with the wedding design.
I’m going to be honest with you, when I started getting so much demand for destination weddings, I got a bit nervous. Founding an eco-friendly and sustainable company that vows to be as green as possible, but specialises in destination weddings can seem a little hypocritical, I’m sure.
When starting up Open the Door events four years ago, there was nothing that mattered more to me than founding a business that synchronised with my beliefs and values. Designing minimal waste sustainable events was essential, as well as working with ethical businesses and supporting the local community. To celebrate our four year anniversary, I’m excited to announce that we will be giving back to something incredible that is happening right here in Spain.
An old Spanish colonial house in the woods, tall trees blocking out the hot august sunlight, macrame and wild flowers hanging at the altar, guests being greeted with refreshing mojitos and delicious organic local food, the most fun-loving couple and wild party vibes until the early hours of the morning.
A shiver runs down my spine as I remember the weekend we spent in the mountains in southern Spain with Ivan and Angela. The unique and intense love they share pours out of every image and still gives me butterflies.
